In 2002 a group of enthusiastic
(and slightly eccentric) flamenco fans gathered regularly in Kensington Gardens, to dance, sing,
and play flamenco... usually to the utter bemusement of passers-by.
Since then the juerga has moved indoors and has grown in popularity. It complements other
flamenco events in London by providing a place where people of all levels can get together
and enjoy their common passion.
It is a great place for those who are new to flamenco and want to find out more about it;
or for those who have learnt a little bit of flamenco and want to get up and have a go;
or for experienced dancers who what to try out one of their dances in front of a friendly
and supportive group.
The juerga is organised by Angela Alonso and is a non-profit event, and needs the support
of all to make sure that it survives. Most importantly, it couldn't happen without the
musicians who truly make La Juerga the great event that it is,
so we ask that everyone pays a small donation which
goes to paying them.
